What to do when your Amalfi Coast ferry is cancelled

A step-by-step fallback for checking the cancellation, finding the current bus route, protecting onward travel, and requesting the correct remedy.

The short answer

Confirm the cancellation with the operating company first, then check the current SITA Sud timetable and regional disruption notices before joining a queue or paying for a replacement. Protect any fixed train or flight connection before trying to preserve the sightseeing plan. Keep the cancelled ticket and booking confirmation because the operator controls rebooking and refund rules.

Confirm what was cancelled before changing the whole day

Check the operating company's website, booking account, ticket office, or contact channel for the exact sailing. A delayed departure, a changed vessel, and a cancelled route require different decisions. Do not rely only on a crowd at the pier or an old timetable screenshot.

Travelmar's conditions state that scheduled trips can be cancelled or changed for unpredictable reasons. Other companies have their own rules, so identify the operator printed on the ticket before asking for a remedy.

Protect the fixed connection first

If the ferry was meant to connect with a flight, long-distance train, cruise departure, checked luggage, or the final access to your accommodation, solve that constraint first. A missed reserved connection usually costs more than losing an afternoon stop.

Tell the accommodation or onward provider that the route changed. Save screenshots of the cancellation notice and keep the original ticket, especially when an insurance or refund request may follow.

Build the road fallback from current operator information

SITA Sud publishes separate Coast timetables and service notices. Open the current route page rather than copying a departure from a travel blog. Road congestion, temporary changes, school-day markings, and local events can all affect whether a listed journey is useful.

Salerno, Maiori, or Amalfi

Check the current Amalfi-Maiori-Salerno table and the nearest valid stop in the direction you need.

Positano or Sorrento

Check the current Amalfi-Positano-Sorrento table and any active notices before committing to the queue.

Ravello

Ravello is not a ferry stop. Rebuild the route through the current road connection rather than waiting at the port.

Regional disruption

Use Muoversi in Campania for current regional transport and road information when more than one service is affected.

Decide whether to continue, shorten, or abandon the outing

A replacement bus is not automatically the right answer. Compare the queue, road direction, number of changes, luggage, mobility needs, heat, and the time left at the destination. Staying near the current base can be the better trip decision.

If you continue, keep a second route home and avoid making the last usable bus or ferry your only option. If you stop, move a flexible local activity into the day rather than buying an expensive transfer simply to rescue the original checklist.

Handle the ticket with the company that issued it

Travelmar says that when it fails to provide the service, a passenger can contact the company within seven days for a replacement ticket or submit a refund request with the ticket or reservation. That wording applies to Travelmar; use the issuing operator's terms for another ticket.

Keep the cancellation message, ticket number, passenger name, payment confirmation, and any form submission. Do not assume that a third-party seller and the ferry operator use the same process.

This is a decision guide, not a live disruption alert. Recheck the operator, SITA Sud, and regional transport information on the day.

Verify before you travel

  • The sailing status with the company named on the ticket
  • The current SITA Sud timetable and active service notices
  • Regional road and transport disruption information
  • The issuing company's rebooking or refund procedure and deadline
